Black Wings hit the home stretch
Only one win stands between EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz and the playoff semifinals. On Sunday the Upper Austrians took a 3:1 series lead with a narrow victory in Vienna.

Alex Westlund was at his best again conceding only one goal. Tomorrow they can seal the deal with the fourth consecutive win. The Black Wings have won 21 out of 27 games at Keine Sorgen EisArena. “Now we created an extremely good starting position but we need one additional win. My players do the details properly and they block many shots. It will not be easy to finish the series and we need another good performance”, knows head coach Rob Daum. Brian Lebler is back from suspension. Philipp Lukas and Patrick Spannring are ruled out.

For the first time since 2003/04 the semifinals could pass off without the Caps. But the chance is still alive, Benoit Gratton and company just need three consecutive victories. The Viennese foundered on the use of opportunities scoring only three goals out of 93 shots in their last three games.

“Yesterday we wasted six or seven top-class chances again. In Linz we have to take the lead, that would be very important. We haven’t played badly so far but we must utilize our goalscoring chances. We still believe in our strength”, reports head coach Tommy Samuelsson. Reinhard Divis remains sidelined.
